Hero Moment by Lady D

Hero Moment

“The vehicle barreled out of control down the hill heading toward the ravine.  I had to think fast, suddenly it came to me.  I popped the hood which flew off from sheer momentum; then jury-rigged the wheel to remain straight while I crawled out the window and inched my way along the edge of the burning hot exposed engine.  I spotted the leaking brake line and, while gripping the edge of the hood, took a pen out of my pocket.  Using the pens plastic tube to connect the two slippery ends of the severed brake line, I then climbed back in the cab and slammed the brakes on just in time to keep the truck from tumbling over the edge.  Too bad you guys missed it.  Think I’ll get another beer.”

Sam looked incredulously up at Jack as he passed her whistling heading for his kitchen then she looked over at the group sitting with her in Jack’s den.  “A pen and faulty brakes and… and where did the truck come from, we were off planet and—”

“Why do I feel that we have seen that happen somewhere before?”  Teal’c added.

Sam nodded.

Daniel sighed then leaned forward in his chair to get his friend’s attention. “Maybe because it’s straight from a MacGyver episode.”

“W-what, then why—”  Sam sputtered.

“Well despite what he said, I was actually witness to his…”  Daniel made quotation marks in the air, ‘hero-moment’.  What Jack actually did was break the forward steering control off the MALPs remote and, as it slowly crawled down the hill toward a trickle of a stream, he ingeniously pulled the batteries out to stop it… but Jack thought it would be more exciting to tell it this way.”

Sam and Teal’c rolled their eyes.  Daniel sighed leaning back in his chair staring at the ceiling.  Teal’c looked perturbed.

“But, Daniel, how do you know that episode so well, you’ve only watched a few here when Jack requested it for team night?”

“Uh, he told me… with great zeal, actually.”

“He told…”  Sam looked behind her at Jack who was whistling “I Need A Hero” in the kitchen, then dropped back with a ‘plop’ deep into the couch.  “Ya, know, I think I know what type of evening this is gonna be.”

“Yep.”

“Indeed.”

The End
