Just Slightly Distracted

Jack whistled.  Tonight was gonna be so HOT!

“JACK!”

“Daniel, sweetie, ya ready for tonight?  ‘Cuz, I can’t wait to leave here to get started.  You wanna eat first or eat first?  You’re not smiling.  In fact, you look kinda angry.  You are angry.  At me?  Now what?  Don’t give me that look.  I’ve been good.  No smart remarks, nothin.’  My mind’s been too busy thinking about tonight.  You’re still mad.  Wad I do?”

“What did you do?  You don’t remember?  You just did it!”

“No.  I didn’t.  I’ve just been sitting here in my office working.  I haven’t done anything.  Especially, nothin’ to make you that angry.”

“Sam.”

“What?”

“Sam.  What did you say to Sam, just now?”

“I-I… aw hell, I don’t remember, Daniel.  She asked me out to dinner tonight and I had to tell her something!”

“Right, Jack, you said something, which is why she just stormed into my office in a fit of anger, spouting anti-Jack verses and swear words to make a sailor proud.”

“What?  What are you talking about?  Carter came in here.  Gave me a card with some heart-thingy on it and then said she could make reservations for the evening.  And I said—oh!”

“You said, oh?  Nope, that wasn’t it.  What you said was that you couldn’t because you had to wax the dog and walk your truck, Jack!”

“Oh boy.  ‘Should probably steer clear of her for a while, huh?”

“I’d say you should apologize, but she’s really not in a happy place right now, so yeah.  But.  I did have one question.”

“And?”

“Can I watch you wax your dog… tonight?  Maybe help you do it?”

“Not sure if I can wait that long, now, with that visual.  Maybe we won’t be missed if we took a long lunch.  Come on.  Let’s go grab some wax.”

The End
