Seasons Change

Yellow, brown, white, purple, and a thousand shades of green met his gaze.

Red and white checks lay on a blanket below him.

The sky above was a perfect cerulean.

Cotton candy clouds floated through brilliant sunlight.

He squinted at the white shapes above and reached a hand out beside him.

She was there.

Warm in the summer sun.

Happy.

So was he.

But his secret grew.

Inoperable.

They didn’t know.

In winter, only white and a few shades of grey would dominate this place.

There would be no yellows or greens.

And she would walk alone in the cold.
