Blindsided

Author’s Note:  I’ve been struck for a long time by the look of surprise and anger on Jack’s face in ‘the scene’ from ‘Divide and Conquer’.  Just playing with it.

How did this happen?

I’m a soldier, for cryin’ out loud!

This isn’t supposed to happen!

Sure, there’s a lot of reasons why it might…

She’s brave.

Determined.

Strong.

Able to put up with my bullshit.

Funny.

Compassionate.

Brilliant.

Not to mention gorgeous.

But knowing all of that still didn’t prepare me.

I knew I was fond of her, but…

I was blindsided.  Blown away.  Taken out in one.

To say I was shocked would be putting it mildly.

I still am.

I sit in the dark, angry at myself and at her, and I wonder.
