Badge of Honor

On Sateda, scars had powerful connotations.

They spoke of honor, bravery, and sacrifice.

I grew up with those notions.  I never thought anything would change them.

But now, looking at smooth, unmarred skin in the mirror for the first time in years, I can’t help but realize that a lack of scars says something, too.  What it says surprises me.  I always thought it spoke of weakness; of softness; of something I could never respect.

Turns out I was wrong.

As I look over my shoulder at my back again, I know my perfect skin says only one thing.

Love.

The End
